ONE ISLAND – MANY VISIONS
‘One Island – Many Visions’ is a Portland Sculpture & Quarry Trust collaboration with the Royal Society of Sculptors and PSQT community artists, involving 27 artists’ residencies and research outcomes over 18 months, leading to an exhibition, symposium and community events from 6th September to 31st October 2025.

BUILDING A DRY STONE WALL SCULPTURAL HABITAT
Monday 8th – Thursday 11th September 10am – 4pm daily
Members of the Royal Society of Sculptors (MRSS), Livia Spinolo and Ros Burgin will be building a drystone wall sculptural habitat, in collaboration with members of the Dorset Drystone Walling Association, Peter Curtis (Chair DSWA) and Phyllis Warren, assisted by Bob Ford, Naturalist, Portland Sculpture & Quarry Trust.

CHRISTOPHER WREN ARCHITECTURE – FROM QUARRY TO CITY

Free Tour of Christopher Wren London Churches with James Newton, Architect – following the route of the inscriptions on the Wren Stone at Tout Quarry Sculpture Park & Nature Reserve that connects London to Portland.

MEMORY STONES ALIGNMENT
20 September – 4-5pm
Hannah Sofaer MA (RCA) meets at her installation of the Memory Stones, to introduce the concept of a curatorial space created by the alignment that connects to her physical and digital Living Land Archive, beginning with the stromatolites the earliest living thing that gave oxygen to the air we breathe.

ECOLOGICAL SCULPTURE WORKSHOP
Friday 10th October 2-4.30pm
Fiona Campbell (MRSS) leads a hands-on Ecological Sculpture Workshop using found and recycled materials. Items provided, suitable for all and free. This workshop is funded by The Arts Society (Wessex Area).

PROBIOTIC FOSSILS: (Tiny Builders of the Natural World)
Saturday 18th October 2-3pm
Jane Fox (MRSS) leads a hands-on demonstration in collaboration with probiotic microbial cellulose. Her biodegradable fossils are inspired by the cyanobacteria-constructed Stromatolite fossils. Suitable for all.

A selection of ‘One Island – Many Visions’ artists: Fiona Campbell (MRSS), Ros Burgin (MRSS), Rebecca Newnham (FRSS), Nicola Turner (MRSS), Hannah Sofaer (MA (RCA) Creative Director PSQT) and, to be confirmed, Dr. Kate Parsons (MRSS) will be in conversation with Freeny Yianni, Founder and Curator of CLOSE Gallery, Somerset.

Meet inside the Drill Hall Gallery and then proceed outside to Tout Quarry Sculpture Park & Nature Reserve (weather permitting).
